Tissue Culture Academy

What is plant tissue culture—and when does a business need it?

Plant tissue culture is a method of growing plant material under controlled, aseptic conditions. A small piece of selected plant tissue is established in a culture vessel and guided through defined stages such as initiation, multiplication and rooting.

Why companies consider it

The method can be useful when a business needs to preserve a selected plant, multiply material faster than conventional propagation allows, improve batch consistency or establish a cleaner starting population.

What it does not guarantee

Tissue culture is not automatically “disease-free,” genetically perfect or economically suitable for every crop. The quality of the mother material, the protocol, the number of passages and the acclimatisation process all matter.

How to start

Prepare the crop and cultivar name, the condition of the mother material, the desired annual volume, the target delivery stage and the commercial reason for using tissue culture. This gives a laboratory enough context to assess feasibility.
