Cuttings and tissue culture are both clonal propagation methods, but they solve different operational problems.
Cuttings
Cuttings may be simpler and faster when healthy mother plants are readily available and the required volume is manageable. They also require ongoing mother-stock space and can carry problems from the source plant into the next generation.
Tissue culture
Tissue culture can support faster multiplication from limited material and reduce dependence on a large mother block. It requires protocol development, controlled laboratory work and a carefully managed transition from culture vessel to nursery.
The commercial question
The right choice depends on the plant, the health of the starting stock, multiplication rate, target volume, available nursery capacity and the value of consistency to the business.
